ARLINGTON — Several Arlington schools were put into lockdown for about an hour Thursday when a robbery was reported at a nearby latte stand.
An employee at the stand told police that a woman approached, showed a dark-colored pistol and demanded money. The worker handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect ran away.
The robbery was reported at 11:27 a.m. near the corner of N. Olympic Avenue and E. Division Street, Arlington Police spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
Officers arrived a minute later.
The Arlington School District Office, Presidents Elementary School, Eagle Creek Elementary School, Post Middle School, Haller Middle School and Stillaguamish Valley School were put on lockdown about 11:35 a.m. while officers used a police dog to search for the suspect. The lockdown was cancelled at 12:20 p.m.
“We put the schools on lockdown just as precaution,” Banfield said.
The district sent email and voicemail messages to parents about the lockdown, district spokeswoman Andrea Conley said.
“All of our students are safe and sound,” she said.
