Man who shot, killed man over laptop sentenced

YAKIMA -- A Granger man who shot and killed another man over laptop has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reported that Adrian Estrada, 32, had originally been charged with second-degree murder for the September 2011 death of 31-year-old Billy Ray Hicks Jr., but that charge was reduced to first-degree manslaughter.

Authorities say Estrada barged into Hick's home looking for repayment for an earlier incident and took the laptop. But Hicks fought him.

Witnesses told police that Estrada then pulled out a pistol and fired three times. Hicks died 90 minutes later in the hospital.

Witnesses told police that Estrada was a gang member known as "Poke."

Court records show that Estrada has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for second-degree robbery, burglary and drug dealing.
