TORONTO -- Kevin Croswell has only been on the Washington Stealth roster for three days, but he came up with perhaps the performance of the season for the Stealth on Saturday.
Croswell saved 41 shots in his Stealth debut to help Washington defeat Toronto 14-9 in a rematch of the past two National Lacrosse League championship games.
Croswell got the Stealth going with 13 first quarter saves. He had 22 by halftime.
"It's so uplifting for the entire team for a goalie to make some big saves early on," Stealth coach Chris Hall said. "(Croswell) got comfortable in the first quarter and he was solid throughout the game."
Croswell called it "a great feeling" to be able to contribute.
"The team came out firing and gave me a lot of confidence," Croswell said. "Got a couple of saves early and the defense in front of me made it easy for me throughout the game."
With the victory, the Stealth snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-6 on the season.
The Stealth's offense has struggled for much of the 2012 season, but came through on Saturday with their highest goal output of the year. Jeff Zywicki's return from injury gave the Stealth a lift offensively.
"You need three blue chip players on offense to really be effective in this league," Hall said. "Having Zywicki back really opened things up front."
Zywicki finished the game with two goals and two assists as did Stealth forward Lewis Ratcliff.
Croswell, who was signed earlier in the week to fill in for the injured Tyler Richards, felt good about his performance.
