ARLINGTON -- People in this small city have come to rely on the musical theater productions at Arlington High School. It's low-cost, high-quality entertainment.
"We've set the bar pretty high for our musicals," said Scott Moberly, teacher and director. "The community has come to expect something far above the average high school production, and I'm confident they won't be disappointed this year. The cast has a large number of seniors with many years of both musical and Jazzmine credits on their resumes."
Also directing is music teacher Brent McGee, the latest addition to the high school's performing arts faculty.
The cast includes senior Josiah Miller as the Beast and junior Baily Hudson playing Belle, Justin O'Hara as Gaston, Austin McFadden as Lumiere, Nathan Haskew as Cogsworth, Andrew Clark as Maurice, Kelsey Ghirardo as Madame Grand Bouche and Lexi Lewis as Mrs. Potts.
The chorus, orchestra and crew of the production do a great job as well, Moberly said. Musicals at Arlington give students a chance to truly learn the craft of theater, he said.
Senior Megan Birdsong, concluding her fourth year as stage manager, said the musical is filled with all sorts of technical challenges and special effects, and "we're going to nail every one!"
The show features sets and costumes borrowed from a professional stage company and the music is familiar to people who are fans of the Disney animated movie.
"Beauty and the Beast" music is by Alan Menken with lyrics by Tim Rice and Howard Ashman based on the book by Linda Woolverton.
