EVERETT -- The city's parks department has removed playground equipment from two parks that were part of a national recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The equipment is known as a "slalom glider." It's a 6-foot high playground slide that is curved in shape and made from molded plastic.
The gliders were located in Lions Park, 7530 Cascade Drive, and Kasch Park, 8811 Airport Road.
The recall was issued Feb. 16 and parks workers pulled the gliders out of both parks by Feb. 23, said John Petersen, assistant parks director.
The commission and the company that makes the gliders received 16 reports of injuries to children under 8 years old, including one bruised arm, 14 arm and leg fractures, one fractured collar bone and one bruised spleen.
The city is not aware of anyone being hurt in Everett, Petersen said.
The recall was voluntary on the part of the company, which keeps track of incidents involving its equipment.
The company, Landscape Structures Inc. of Delano, Minn., is picking up the tab for the city to replace the glider with a different piece of play equipment, Petersen said. He expects it should be replaced by the summer.
Around 900 of the gliders were sold nationwide since January 2006.
