Report: Seahawks out of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes

When Peyton Manning became one of the highest-profile free agents in NFL history last week, the Seahawks were one of many teams interested in the four-time MVP quarterback. Well apparently that interest was one sided.

Manning, who has already made visits to Denver and Arizona, declined a visit to Seattle according to the Denver Post, putting the Seahawks out of the running.

So now that Seattle is apparently out of the running for Manning, what will they do? Well Pete Carroll has said all along that they believe in Tarvaris Jackson, and while their interest in Manning shows the Seahawks would upgrade at the position if they could, I do believe Carroll and GM John Schneider are comfortable sticking with Jackson in 2012 if it comes to that. Green Bay backup Matt Flynn, who will become a free agent Tuesday, will also be a name tied to the Seahawks because of Schneider's ties to the Packers, so that will be something to watch. Then, of course, there is the draft. We know Seattle won't be able to grab either of the top two quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, who are locks to go 1-2. But do the Seahawks take somebody with the No. 12 pick such as, Ryan Tannehill? That's certainly possible as well (though it's becoming increasing less likely that Tannehill will last that long), but what the past two years have shown us is that the Seahawks won't panic and draft a quarterback just for the sake of drafting one. Again, they are comfortable enough with Jackson, at least in the short-term future, that they will only take a quarterback in the first round if they really, really like they guy. What would be quite a shock, however, is if the entire draft goes by once again without the Seahawks drafting a quarterback at some point.

So now the Seahawks situation is just as unclear as it was last week. But what we do now know is that, according to the Denver Post anyway, Manning won't be coming to Seattle.
