I have seen recently in the letters section much wailing and gnashing of teeth over the choices of the state Legislature, especially in regard to choices made about gay marriage. Much of this complaining comes in the form of asking why their elected representatives have ignored the will of the people and instead are pursuing policies that the authors disagree with.
I would like to suggest an alternative interpretation of their actions, which is that the elected representatives who passed this bill were indeed representing the desires of the majority of voters, and that those complaining that the Legislature is not listening to them are now in the minority.
