Stealth's Richards earns NLL Defensive Player of the Week

The National Lacrosse League announced its weekly awards on Wednesday and Washington Stealth goalkeeper Tyler Richards has earned NLL Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Richards returned after missing three games with injury to save 40 of the 48 shots he faced in a Sunday 11-8 victory over the Colorado Mammoth. Richards was a game-time decision for Sunday's contest, but after seeing Richards in warm-ups, head coach Chris Hall determined he was ready to go.

"It was simply a matter of whether he would be cleared to play or not and whether or not he was comfortable enough to play," Hall said. "He felt good, he was healthy and he is our number one so in he goes and he played great."

Richards gave credit to the defense for his performance.

"A lot of my saves were coming straight to my chest because the guys are playing great defense," Richards said. "The credit goes to them and I was just happy to be back."

Shawn Evans of the Calgary Roughnecks took home NLL Offensive Player of the Week honors for his six goals, two assists and seven loose balls that he collected in last weekends series with Edmonton. The Roughnecks won both of those games.

Peter McFetridge, also of Calgary, was named the Transition Player of the Week for finishing with three goals, two assists and seven loose balls in those same games.

Colorado's Adam Jones was named the Rookie of the Week. He had three goals and eight assists in last weekend's series with Washington.
