EVERETT -- Environmental authorities were monitoring the salvage operation of a 140-foot tugboat containing up to 60,000 gallons of diesel that capsized at the Vigor Marine Shipyard along the Everett waterfront.

A dry dock began sinking Saturday evening and stopped about noon Sunday after hitting the sea floor, according to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The dry dock and the tug Invader became partially submerged.

The tug's owner confirmed that there is up to 60,000 gallons of diesel in the vessel's fuel tanks. Boom was spread around the dock and tug to prevent the spread of any fuel. A light sheen was spotted on the water from other sources, according to the release.

Officials with the Coast Guard and the state Department of Ecology are monitoring the operation.

A salvage company was on scene Sunday and deployed divers to assess the tug.

It was unclear Sunday what caused the dock to sink.
