SNOHOMISH -- Glacier Peak starting pitcher Ben Hackler recorded 11 strikeouts to lead the Grizzlies to a 6-4 non-league victory over Monroe on Monday.
Hackler nearly went the distance, but was removed from the game and replaced by reliever Dalton Pittis in the top of the seventh inning due to a high-pitch count.
The seventh inning proved rather interesting as Monroe had begun a late comeback, cutting the deficit to 6-3 going into the seventh inning. The Bearcats then led off the seventh with a single, an RBI double, and a balk from Pittis that moved the runner to third with the tying run at the plate.
The runner at third never advanced as the game ended on a fly-out to left field to preserve the win for Glacier Peak.
Catcher Josh Brewer paced the Grizzlies' hitters, batting 2-for-3 with a triple. Keenan Miller provided a triple of his own to earn the other extra base hit for Glacier Peak.
The Bearcats were led offensively by sophomore Andrew Moore and junior Dakota Ralph, who both batted 3-for-4 on the day and combined for three doubles.
With the victory Glacier Peak improves to 3-2 overall. The loss brings Monroe's record to 2-3.
