SHORELINE -- King's goalkeeper Logan Griffis got the tough part out of the way first.
Then he won the game for the Knights by simply doing his job.
Griffis, the 12th King's player to attempt a shot in a shootout against Cedarcrest, scored past counterpart Thomas O'Donell and then turned around and stopped a Red Wolves' shot on the ensuing attempt to secure a 2-1 shootout victory for King's Friday night.
"In all my 33 years of playing and coaching soccer I've never, ever seen it," said King's assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer Joe Mathews. "He wasn't aware that he might be shooting and it turned out it was up to him and he did it. I'm very proud of him."
On the stop, Griffis laid out 4-5 feet to his right and snared a hip-high shot for the save.
Cedarcrest scored first in the Cascade Conference showdown when Darian Pendergraft got a shot passed Griffis in the 60th minute. Nine minutes later King's countered as Taylor Moe, off an assist from Cameron Duncan, scored to even the score at 1, which it would stay through regulation and overtime.
The win keeps King's undefeated at tied with Archbishop Murphy for first place in the Cascade Conference.
