MARYSVILLE — Jake Luton made sure the Marysville Pilchuck baseball team is still undefeated in league play going into today’s showdown with Snohomish.
The sophomore smashed a line drive single in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and the bases loaded to knock in the game-winning run as the Tomahawks beat Stanwood 3-2 on Thursday.
Another sophomore, Cody Anderson, pitched six solid innings for MP before running into a little trouble in the sixth, allowing the Spartans to tied the score at 1. In the bottom of the sixth, MP’s Brandon Moser doubled in Luton with one out to regain the lead.
Stanwood would tie the game again in the top of the seventh when pinch hitter Andrew Bloom hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. MP reliever Chad Mullins coaxed the next batter to fly out to end the threat, setting up Luton’s heroics.
Marysville Pilchuck (4-0 in Wesco North) travels to Snohomish (3-1) today at 4 p.m. in a key Wesco North battle.
