EDMONDS -- Michael Plunkett has announced that he intends to resign his council seat June 4.
City Council members will accept applications and interview those interested in the position beginning May 22, according to Council President Strom Peterson.
Then, during the June 5 council meeting, members will elect and seat Plunkett's replacement.
Applications are available at City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N, and the city's website, www.edmondswa.gov.
The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. April 27.
Whoever is appointed will fill the seat through 2013, when the term for Position 1 expires.
Plunkett is serving his fourth term on the council. He served as president in 2004 and 2008. This scenario has been carried out three times since 2009.
Current council members Peterson, Diane Buckshnis and Lora Petso were each appointed to their seats. Each eventually was successfully elected.
Council members also filled the mayor's seat with Mike Cooper in 2010. Cooper lost his election bid in 2011 to current Mayor Dave Earling.
