April is a time for showers. And a time for taxes.
But there's a bright spot: April is also a time for poetry.
April is National Poetry Month and the Everett Public Library is inviting you to celebrate your favorite published poet.
In the program "Rhymes With Everett" you can bring your favorite short poem and share it by reading it aloud.
To get an idea for the length or to see how it's done, check out the library's website at where some of the library's staff have been recorded reading their favorites on YouTube videos.
Choices have included "Too Many Daves" by Dr. Seuss, and "Why I Have a Crush on You, UPS Man" by Alice N. Persons.
"It's really wonderful to see all the diversity of choices," said Eileen Simmons, library director. "April is National Poetry Month, and it's a really nice synergy to see the differences in the poems; and it's a huge variety, so I'm really looking forward to it."
"Rhymes With Everett" is based on former poet laureate Robert Pinsky's Favorite Poem Project.
Everett's event will also have a few special guests as well, including Washington state poet laureate for 2012-14 Kathleen Flenniken, and poets Kevin Craft and Ed Skoog.
Participants in "Rhymes With Everett" should show up at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett. For more information go to
You can also email your name and the title and author of your poem to or call 425-257-8013. Be sure to provide contact information. Space is limited.
