Investigation continues into girls fatal shooting in van
Jenna Carlile and other children were alone in the family van in Stanwood when one of her siblings reportedly found a loaded handgun and fired it. The gun belonged to her father, Marysville police Officer Derek Carlile.
Fatal shooting investigations generally take months to complete, Snohomish County sheriff's Lt. Brent Speyer said Wednesday. That includes gathering witness statements and analyzing data.
"This is a normal timeline," Speyer said.
The finished investigation will be forwarded to prosecutors, who will make a charging decision.
Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe said his office hasn't received a referral from the sheriff's detectives.
"It would be extremely rare to have a completed homicide investigation a month after the incident," Roe said.
