STANWOOD — Sultan’s loss is Stanwood’s gain.
Sultan city administrator Deborah Knight has been hired as Stanwood’s new city administrator, a job that starts June 1. The position pays $115,000 a year.
“On the one hand, I am thrilled to have a new opportunity, but at the same time, I feel something of a hole in my heart about leaving the Sultan community,” Knight said. “I am excited about Stanwood because of the commitment to economic development, the community support for special events and the talented staff and elected officials. I will be happy to be part of helping to get more things rolling.”
At a special meeting Monday, the City Council authorized Mayor Dianne White to sign an employment contract with Knight.
Under the direction of the mayor, Knight will have supervisory roles in all city departments, including police, finance, human resources, planning, public works and the city clerk’s office.
Knight has been the city administrator of Sultan since 2006. She previously worked for the city of Woodinville, where she became the assistant to the city manager. Knight earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Davis and a master’s degree in business administration from City University, Bellevue.
White said she is happy about the selection of Knight, who was the top candidate in a field of five finalists for the job.
“Deborah’s experience in Sultan and Woodinville will be a major asset to Stanwood,” White said. “The City Council and I are thrilled that she will be joining our team.”
