Mike Bartley named Archbishop Murphy girls soccer coach

Mike Bartley took over the Archbishop Murphy boys soccer team this past winter, intrigued by the opportunity to coach his son, Josh.

He seems to have enjoyed the experience.

After coaching the Wildcats to a perfect regular season, Bartley was named the school's newest girls soccer coach on Friday, according to a press release from the school.

"We couldn't be happier to have Mike as head coach of our girls soccer team," said Jerry Zander, Archbishop Murphy athletic director. "Not only are his coaching abilities stellar, but he's already such an integral member of the AMHS family."

This is Bartley's first year as head coach of the boy's team. He was hired in February to replace Eddie Fernandez who resigned last June. Before accepting the girls job, Bartley was coach of the Jackson girls soccer team. His more than 30-year coaching career includes work at Eastside Catholic High School and Meadowdale High School.

"Mike has a reputation for earning the respect of his players and helping them be their best," Zander said. "Next season is going to be exciting to watch."
