Grandview farm to pay $90,000 in dumping case
Used oil and pesticide containers were found buried in shallow pits at Double H Farms in Grandview in March 2009. The Ecology Department originally imposed a $165,000 penalty but announced the smaller settlement Monday.
The agency said in a statement that the farm will investigate four other properties it owns where waste materials may have been buried and clean up the sites if dangerous waste is found.
Double H also paid a $25,000 fine to the Washington state Department of Agriculture, which had alleged the farm improperly disposed of pesticides and pesticide containers. The farm did not acknowledge fault by paying the penalty.
