GIVING
Students donate toy bears to Fire District 1
Students at Discovery Elementary School in Mukilteo collected teddy bears and other stuffed animals for Snohomish County Fire District 1 crews to give to children in emergency situations.
The students donated more than 100 bears, which were picked up April 18 by a crew from Mariner Fire Station 11.
The Discovery PTA and student body have been donating stuffed animals to Fire District 1 for more than 10 years.
"We appreciate this donation from the students of Discovery Elementary School. We carry teddy bears on all our engines and medic units to comfort children we see on emergency calls. Community donations make this possible," said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Fire District 1.
Mukilteo Girl Scouts give to Operation School Bell
Girl Scout Troop 40952 of Mukilteo gave a check for $160, which represents 10 percent of the troop's cookie sales, to Assistance League of Everett's Operation School Bell program.
The girls also brought in 10 bags of clothes and other items for the Assistance League Thrift Shop.
The troop got to tour the Operation School Bell facility, where children from low-income families visit to be fitted for new clothes.
