Weekend fun: Go sailing, go skating, go vintage

Boost your family’s health: A Youth Fitness Expo is on Saturday at Comcast Arena. The Youth Expo provides a chance for visitors to delve into many different sports and fitness options that they can explore in greater detail. Exhibitors include archery, jazz dance, karate, ballet, boxing and climbing. There will also be exhibitions on baseball and basketball, cheerleading, fly fishing, lacrosse, karate, golf, gymnastics, rock band, ropes courses and sports physical therapy. The event is free. Take a kid fishing: A Kids Fish-In is scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Thornton A. Sullivan Park on Silver Lake. Children ages 5 to 14 can learn how to catch a fish. Meanwhile, a boat expo takes place starting at 9 a.m. on the lake. Find out more about these events in our story here.

Visit Camano, enjoy art: The Camano Island Studio Tour, an annual Mother’s Day tradition, begins on Friday and runs through the weekend, with an encore on May 19 and 20. Visitors can travel through Camano Island and its sister city, Stanwood, to more than 60 local artists at their studios and galleries. Read our story here.

Take Mom sailing: If you are still splashing about for last-minute Mother’s Day ideas, why not take her out to Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island for a scenic ride on a historic vessel. Go vintage: Ruffles &Rust Vintage Market is this weekend at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. More than 80 vendors and handcrafters will gather to showcase the frills and foundations of a vintage lifestyle. The event is Friday and Saturday. Find out what you need to know here.

Go Country: The Hometown Hootenanny salutes the simple country life with its “Take a Back Road” show on Saturday in Everett. Several artists will perform, including Rachel Mae. Find more information here.

Boat safely: Everett Sail and Power Squadron volunteers are planning to offer free vessel safety checks Saturday at the Port of Everett Marina. The checks help make sure they are in compliance with federal and state recreational boating safety laws, particularly with regard to the carriage of safety equipment such as proper life jackets, flares and fire extinguishers. Checks will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A registration table is expected to be set up near AquaTrek Sales and Rental at 1720 West Marine View Drive.

Grow tomatoes: Expert tomato grower Steve Goto, owner of Gotomato, is speaking at a free seminar on growing tomatoes organically from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Molbak’s in Woodinville. Goto will talk about soil preparation, fertilization, controlling diseases and pests, and which kinds of tomatoes thrive in this region. Molbak’s is at 13625 NE 175th St., Woodinville.

Shop for interesting plants: Kruckeberg Botanic Garden offers its 25th annual Mother’s Day plant sale and open house, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 20312 15th Ave. NW, Shoreline.
