MUKILTEO -- City officials are mulling the idea of a contract for fire protection service.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 recently floated the idea during routine talks with Mukilteo, Mayor Joe Marine said.

Mukilteo officials asked the fire district to submit a contract proposal. City administrators are looking it over.

Fire district leaders also have explained to Mukilteo some of the typical features of a contract, board vice chairwoman Millie Judge said Friday.

Mukilteo City Council members are expected to discuss the idea in the coming weeks, Marine said.

Meanwhile, Fire District 1 is in similar talks with Lynnwood and Fire District 7, part of a growing movement toward new fire service partnerships in south Snohomish County.
