EVERETT — A convicted sex offender was arrested Monday for investigation of voyeurism after allegedly using a camera hidden in his shoe to try to take photos up a woman’s dress in a Lynnwood store.
A judge on Tuesday set bail at $30,000 for the suspect, 47.
The man was arrested after being detained by two people in the store in the 4000 block of 198th Street SW in Lynnwood.
The woman was shopping when she noticed that a man was standing close behind her in the aisle, according to court papers.
Her husband was standing a few feet away. He noticed the suspect near his wife and that he was “standing weird” and moving his right foot between her feet, a Lynnwood police officer wrote in court papers.
The husband told police he was looking at the suspect’s foot when he saw a sparkle reflect off of the man’s black tennis shoe. That’s when he realized the man had some kind of camera in his shoe.
The husband confronted the suspect, who attempted to run away. The husband and another customer caught him, brought him to the floor and detained him until police arrived.
Lynnwood police discovered a camera sewn in the top of the man’s mesh tennis shoe. A wire led from the shoe camera up his pant leg to his right front pants pocket. Inside the pocket was a mini-recorder with a memory card, court papers said.
The man was convicted of child molestation in 2006 after inappropriately touching an Everett girl, 12.
