Fishermen looking for halibut on the sandy banks in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca, and lingcod in the rocky habitat of Deception Pass and surrounding areas, did well over the weekend. State Fish and Wildlife Department checks on Friday, May 11, at the Cornet Bay public ramp on the north end of Whidbey Island showed 156 anglers with 33 halibut, 12 lings and 18 greenling. On Saturday, it was 166 with 30 halibut, 14 lings and six greenling.
Closer to home, checks Saturday at the Port of Everett ramp showed pretty decent action as 101 fishermen were tallied with 10 lings and three halibut. On Sunday, it was 48 with 12 lings and one cabezon.
Out on the Strait, checks Saturday at the Ediz Hook public ramp in Port Angeles showed 256 anglers with 74 halibut, and on Sunday, 10 fishermen at Olson’s Resort in Sekiu with 28 rockfish and six lings.
