SPOKANE -- When college students move out of dorms in the spring they often throw away a lot of good "stuff" they don't want to move.

Gonzaga residence director Nicholas Grainger said they found a way to prevent waste and help the needy.

KXLY reported that moving containers were set up outside dorms this week, and students cleaning out their rooms dropped off food, books, clothes and furniture.

In all, 35,000 pounds went to the Spokane Community Warehouse and were donated to Catholic Charities and St. Margaret's shelter.
