Letdown
After weeks of breathless media hype, Facebook’s stock market debut Friday turned out to be something of a dud.
Facebook’s shares closed just 23 cents above initial pricing, disappointing market watchers who apparently were expecting Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to don a hoodie made of gold leaf and Andean vicuna and surf onto the trading floor on a 30-foot wave of $100 bills.
Ad nauseum: Saying the high cost outweighs the benefits, General Motors says it won’t buy advertising time during Super Bowl XLVII, XVLII or whatever the next one will be called. The decision comes days after GM pulled all of its ads from Facebook, saying they were ineffective.
Way to go, GM. First you get a government bailout, then you repay America by displaying a shocking lack of confidence in two of our most cherished over-hyped institutions. Good luck with your $600 ad buy in the East Warwick Pennysaver.
A certain age: Documents reveal that Loretta Lynn is three years older than she claims to be, and was married at age 15, not 13 as she stated in her biography.
Because of this, the next edition of “Coal Miner’s Daughter” will be retitled, “Thank Goodness the Old Maid Finally Got Married.”
