ANAHEIM, Calif. — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells will undergo right thumb surgery Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks.

The team said Monday that Wells will have surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedics in Los Angeles.

Wells was hurt stealing second base in the second inning of Sunday's 3-2, 13-inning loss at San Diego.
