New 787 order on the way for Boeing?
The Boeing Co. could log a fresh order for the 787 Dreamliner by mid-June.
Lion Air is likely to sign an order for 10 787s on June 8, reports Reuters.
This comes after Lion Air finalized in February a $22.4 billion deal with Boeing for the single-aisle 737.
The Indonesian carrier had been considering placing an order for either the Boeing 787 or Airbus A330.
But unnamed sources told Reuters that Lion Air prefers Boeing's new design and technology to what the airline considers an “old design” in Airbus' A330.
Boeing hasn't had a lot of new orders for the Dreamliner in recent years due to delivery delays and the long wait to get one. So far this year, the company has more cancellations than new orders for the fuel-efficient 787.
At the end of April, Boeing had a backlog of 843 unfilled orders for the 787. The company plans to increase production on the 787 to a pace of 10 jets monthly by the end of 2013.
Airbus could land a $4 billion deal from AirAsia, Reuters also reported. AirAsia is considering an order for 50 A320s.
The two celebrated on Thursday the 100th delivery of an A320 to AirAsia. The carrier already has 375 A320s on order with Airbus.
