Book-It Repertory's 23rd season mixes classics, new works

Book-It Repertory, the theater that bases its business on best-sellers, announced its 23rd season with a lineup that mixes classics with some newcomers:
"Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet": By Jamie Ford. Sept. 18. This is the story of Henry Lee, who was bullied as a kid and found friendship with Keiko Okabe, a Japanese student. Following the Japanese invasion of China, Henry's father forbade their friendship. Now a widower 40 years later, Henry struggles to bridge the gap between his Chinese father and his American son and with the girl Henry loved long ago.
"Owen Meany's Christmas Pageant": By John Irving. Dec. 4. This holiday hit has little Owen wanting to play Messiah in the church Christmas pageant.
"Anna Karenina": By Leo Tolstoy. Feb. 5. This brooding romance has Anna Karenina unhappily married but who finds love in the arms of the dashing Count Vronsky. But Anna's husband refuses to release her from the marriage.
"Adventures of Huckleberry Finn": By Mark Twain. April 16. This classic tale has Huck running from his drunken, abusive father down river after faking his own death. Taking up with an escaped slave, Jim, the duo survives pirates and bloody feuds in a tale of wit.
"The Financial Lives of the Poets": By Jess Walter. June 6. Performed in the Jones Playhouse at the University of Washington. Matt Prior, a financial advice columnist, is about to lose everything and finds himself with a pair of thugs behind a 7-Eleven trying to see through an idea that could solve it all.
Current season subscribers can renew by Wednesday to keep the same seats. New subscriptions for the 2012-13 season begin July 1.
