SPOKANE — The Monroe and Marysville Pilchuck softball teams had similar experiences at the 4A state softball tournament.
Both the Bearcats and Tomahawks won their respective openers only to lose in the quarterfinal round. Monroe, unlike MP, was able to win in the consolation bracket to keep alive its season.
In the opening round, Monroe beat Kentlake 7-3 and Marysville Pilchuck eked out a 4-3 win over Emerald Ridge to advance to the quarterfinals, where Monroe lost to Jefferson (10-8) and MP lost to Woodinville (9-1).
In the consolation bracket, Monroe was able to top Emerald Ridge, winning 5-3. Monroe faces Tahoma today at 11 a.m. for a spot in the third-place game.
