We’ll be in the restaurant: The owners of the Seattle Space Needle, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, have proposed adding three viewing platforms extending out from the observation deck. The platforms would have glass walls and floors, allowing people to look straight down to the new Dale Chihuly glass palace and the Experience Music Project below.
If the height itself isn’t enough to induce vertigo, all that multicolored, undulating metal and glass should do the trick.
Who’s buying the first round? State residents got their first sip of what life will be like without state-run liquor stores Friday as retail stores took over. For the most part, prices were a tad more expensive, with the state still taking its cut in taxes and retailers and distributors taking theirs.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1953, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey, following the death of King George VI.
To this day, young boys (and the men who think like them) giggle at any mention of how many years the queen has been on the throne.
