If you spend a lot of time hiking the trails around here, maybe it's time to give back. You can join the Mountain Stewards and train to be a volunteer for the Mount Baker National Forest trails.
Volunteers are needed to work on the lower parts of the trails to assist day hikers, or help backpackers and climbers.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older with hiking and outdoor recreation skills.
The training takes place July 14 and 21. After the training volunteers must commit to work three weekend days between July 15 and Sept. 9.
A third optional training day is scheduled for Aug. 4 for volunteers to work at Heather Meadows near the eastern end of the Mount Baker Scenic Byway, Highway 542, at Mount Baker Ski Area.
Applications must be received by June 29, online at the U.S. Forest Service website at tinyurl.com/7z3nzxh, by email brichey@fs.fed.us, or mail to Mount Baker Ranger District, Mountain Stewards, 810 Highway 20, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
