SULTAN -- The city is looking for a new city administrator.
Sultan has hired a consulting firm to post, search and select candidates for the position, which pays between $96,312 and $109,248 annually.
Mayor Carolyn Eslick appointed Steve Worthington late May as interim city administrator while The Prothman Co., of Issaquah, searches for eligible candidates.
Worthington, a former Fife city manager who lives in University Place, will work 20 hours per week. He is set to be paid $64 an hour, not to exceed $25,500. The city is also paying his travel and lodging expenses, deputy finance director Laura Koenig said.
Prothman Co. is to select about 10 candidates who will then be interviewed by a panel comprised of the mayor, some city council members and city staff. The top three candidates are scheduled to have a second interview, but this time with members of the community, Eslick said.
This process may happen sometime in July. The goal is to have the position filled as early as possible, she said.
The city council awarded the $14,500 contract to Prothman at a late-May meeting.
The new city administrator will then have to deal with preparing the city budget for 2013. The city administrator is in charge of day-to-day operations and reports to the mayor.
Former city administrator Deborah Knight left Sultan for Stanwood on June 1. She was in Sultan since 2006.
