Rep. Gerry Pollett of Seattle says he's heard a lot of complaints about unpleasant surprises at the checkout stand, where taxes are added. Since privatization took effect Friday stores must add a 20.5 percent sales tax and $3.77 per liter spirits tax.
Pollett told The Seattle Times that people shouldn't have to bring a calculator to comparison shop for liquor.
