Troopers share 'Click It or Ticket' results

Washington State Patrol troopers spent the past two weeks reminding drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts.

The most recent statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign ran from May 21 through June 2, trooper Keith Leary said.

Troopers pulled over 343 drivers in Snohomish County alone, he said. They wrote 240 tickets for seat belt and other traffic violations, along with nine criminal citations. They also gave 132 verbal warnings for various violations.

Here's a partial breakdown of what drivers were ticketed or cited for locally:

162 for seat belt violations
7 for child restraint violations
28 for speeding
21 for talking on cell phones while driving
2 for texting while driving
10 for driving without insurance
3 for felony warrant arrests
2 for misdemeanor arrests
5 for driving with suspended driver's licenses
4 for driving without a valid license

The emphasis patrols were paid for by traffic-safety grants, Leary said.

“With a $124 reminder for (those drivers), we hope they choose or think about wearing their belts in the future,” Leary said. “We are in the business of saving lives. We want them to live, not die or be seriously injured in a collision.”
