Sierra Club program explores gold mining history
Tied to the wealth were the men whose names now are memorialized on Everett's street signs: John Rockefeller, Colgate Hoyt, Charles Colby and Henry Hewitt.
Learn about these men and more at a presentation by the Sierra Club called, "Monte Cristo and the Mountain Loop Highway: Past and Present Environmental Issues."
The talk features historic photographic documentation and funny stories, along with photos and information on the current threats to the county's gold-mining heritage.
Bill Lider is the presenter. He's a licensed engineer, naturalist and photographer with a deep knowledge of local history.
The 90-minute free talks are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett, and 7 p.m. June 18 at Lynnwood Public Library, 19200 44th Ave. W.
