Glacier Peak's production of 'Seussical' wins award

Glacier Peak High School took away the scholastic equivalent of a Tony Award last week for its musical production of "Seussical."
The Snohomish high school received the 5th Avenue Theatre Award for Outstanding Direction during an awards ceremony June 4.
In addition to outstanding direction, Glacier Peak's "Seussical" had earned nominations in outstanding overall production, outstanding choreography, scenic, lighting, and costume, hair and makeup design, and stage crew, along with outstanding performance by an actress and actor in a leading role and outstanding performance by a chorus.
Director Darren Oke said when the nominations were first announced that he was a bit shocked at the number of them and gave credit to his cast, crew and volunteers.
Another Snohomish County high school to receive an award was Edmonds Heights K12's production of "Xanadu" for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Group.
Special Honors for Student Achievement went to: Kenn Grambihler of Edmonds Heights K12; Emily Russell of Kamiak High School; and Charles Southward, Deborah Davis and Sam Tichota of Stanwood High School.
The 10th annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater is a high school version of the Tony Awards.
This year awards were handed out in 21 categories from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display.
The 2012 5th Avenue Awards encompassed 161 nominations, 104 honorable mentions, and 31 special awards, which were given out in various categories.

Liberty High School in Issaquah took home top honors leaving with four awards including Best Outstanding Overall Musical Production for its show, "Little Shop of Horrors."
