The production of their first lip dub video happened May 25 and involved all 1,600 students in the four small learning communities on campus.
"The amount of school spirit that was generated by it was something our campus has never seen," said Andrew Christopher, who teaches video production at the International School of Communications.
"All of our four schools are completely separate outside of a couple assemblies a year. This was about building this campus up as one, and I think we did that."
About 100 students worked to produce the video that included 50 singers, the majority of whom were freshman, Christopher added. Students voted to determine the two songs, "We Are Young" by Fun and "Glad You Came" by The Wanted, used in the video. The camera follows students lip-syncing to the songs through parts of the four schools on campus. Dancing, sign waving and umbrella-twirling students clad in green and gold, the school colors, line the route.
Scenes in each school, such as a fake emergency room set up in the Bio-Med Academy, were intended to depict what each small learning community is all about, Christopher said.
Arlington High School in April performed to "Crazy in Love", a song by Beyonce and Jay-Z, and entered it in a lip dub contest sponsored by Anacortes High School. Christopher and students watched videos from other schools, including Arlington High School's, before they made their own.
They knew about the contest but the deadline to enter was earlier than when production was scheduled to happen, Christopher said.
International School of Communications students produced a lip dub video in May 2011 and wanted to include the entire campus in the production of this year's video.
"We want to be on the front end of starting something else next year," Christopher said. "We're kicking around ideas on how to get the entire school involved again."
