JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD -- The death of a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier on Tuesday in Afghanistan was the 12th this year from the base near Tacoma.
Sgt. 1st Class Barett W. McNabb, of Chino Valley, Ariz., was killed by a roadside bomb. He was a member of the 2nd Stryker Brigade.
The News Tribune reported the 12 deaths are two more than all of the JBLM deaths last year.
Lewis-McChord has about 9,300 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan. Most of them are with the 2nd and 3rd Stryker Brigades. The 4th Stryker Brigade is in training to go to Afghanistan later this year.
