Graham Kerr: former host of “The Galloping Gourmet” TV show, plans to speak at 1 p.m. today at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84th Ave. W. His talk is expected to cover a strategy for 2020 eating, which includes growing, gathering and sharing vegetables and fruits, especially those grown locally and in front and back yards. The church counts as part of its mission food security and stewardship, and aims to distribute 1 ton of food to local food banks. The public is welcome.

Jewish learning class: Temple Beth Or offers an 18-week class starting 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, and running every other Wednesday, at 3215 Lombard Ave., Everett. Taught by Rabbi Jessica Kessler Marshall and Heidi Piel, class will cover Jewish holidays, life cycles, rituals, theology and prayer, and will emphasize the meaning behind Jewish practice. Neighbors in Need event: The rooftop of Lynnwood’s Trinity Lutheran Church will be the site of an event by Neighbors in Need, a ministry of the church, from noon Friday through 2 p.m. June 24. The group will occupy the rooftop to raise awareness of poverty. The ministry works in partnership with United Way of Snohomish County, the Edmonds School District, the city of Lynnwood and other agencies and businesses. It provides a cold-weather shelter, Saturday morning free breakfasts, clothing, toiletries and other help. The Six Steps to a Joy-Filled Life: is the title of a lesson to be presented by John Erdman at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Everett Unity Church of Positive Living. Free sack lunches or hot meals served to the homeless, low-income seniors and families, and kids on the street. Volunteers, able to lift 50 pounds and use stairs, are needed to help cook, set up, serve and clean up. A box truck, the size of a U-Haul truck, is needed to pick up food for food banks.
