Snohomish considers restricting new development

SNOHOMISH -- The Snohomish City Council is being asked to enact an emergency six-month moratorium on new development in the northeastern part of the city.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the George Gilbertson Boardroom, 1601 Ave. D.

City staff is asking for the moratorium because Snohomish doesn't have enough funds to connect development in the area to the city's sewer system. The moratorium would affect 400 acres of land north of Blackmans Lake and east of Highway 9.

The moratorium would not affect development in other parts of the city. If the moratorium is approved, people can speak about the issue at a public hearing scheduled tentatively for July 17.
