EDMONDS -- Burlington Northern Santa Fe says a tree that fell across railroad tracks north of Edmonds about 5 a.m. Monday, shutting down both sets of the main line rails.

Spokesman Gus Melonas says the track was cleared in an hour-and-a-half and found to be safe, so there was no need for a 48-hour safety moratorium for passenger trains that typically follows a mudslide. He says all train traffic has resumed.
