BELLINGHAM — A climber who reached the summit of Mount Baker died on the way down when he skied off a cliff and fell about 800 feet.
The Whatcom County sheriff’s office says 34-year-old Keith Hardy of Seattle was with a team that had climbed the mountain. They were on their way down when Hardy apparently didn’t see the precipice. Others were able to stop in time.
The Bellingham Herald reports that a Bellingham Search and Rescue that attempted to recover the body over the weekend but had to wait for weather conditions to improve to reach the location at the 8,200-foot level.
KOMO News reports that Hardy was a family practice doctor in Bellevue, the team physician for the University of Washington lacrosse team and the Sammamish High School football team.
