2 Everett apartment fires deemed suspicious

EVERETT -- Everett police arson detectives are looking into two suspicious fires that damaged apartment buildings about three blocks apart from each other in the West Casino Road area early Saturday morning.
In both cases, neighbors prevented more serious damage by quickly calling 911 and starting to fight the fires on their own, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said in a release. No injuries were reported.
The more serious of the two fires occurred just before 5 a.m. in the 8600 block of 18th Avenue W. The blaze caused heavy damage to the outside of an apartment building, Snell said.
The other fire started before 4 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Casino Road and caused minimal damage, Snell said.
Police on Saturday said they were pursuing leads, but had no suspects. They did not believe the fires were related.
Anybody with information that might help solve the cases is asked to call the Everett police tip line at 425-257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
