Lynnwood teen wins scholarship for her singing

Denna Good-Mojab of Lynnwood has been awarded the 2012-13 Bev Sellers Memorial Scholarship for vocal performance.

She is among 17 undergraduate and graduate students awarded this scholarship by the Young Singers Foundation. Good-Mojab, 15, is finishing her sophomore year at the University of Washington School of Music. She is a student of Thomas Harper, chairman of the voice division.

She also was recently awarded the Helen Kupper Scholarship for 2012-13 by the Mensa Education and Research Foundation.

In 2007, Denna debuted with the Portland Opera as the Second Spirit in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." She sang again with the opera in its 2009 production of "La Boheme" and in its 2010 productions of "Pagliacci" and "Carmina Burana." She sang the role of Amahl in the University of Washington's December production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors."

In March, Denna participated in Seattle Theatre Group's training and performance program, More Music @ The Moore, singing in two concerts an excerpt of the aria, "Una voce poco fa," from Rossini's opera "The Barber of Seville.''. She is in rehearsal for the Seattle Opera's August production of "Turandot."
