Skagit Co. killer may be moved into prison

MOUNT VERNON -- A hearing began Monday in Mount Vernon to determine whether a man who killed a sheriff's deputy and five other people in a 2008 Skagit County shooting rampage will be moved from a mental hospital to a state prison to serve a life sentence.
The state said Isaac Zamora's condition is manageable in prison. His lawyer said Western State Hospital is trying to get rid of him and that he remains a danger to himself and others.
The Skagit Valley Herald reported that the hearing in Skagit County Superior Court is expected to take all week.
Zamora, 31, has been at Western State since 2009 when he pleaded guilty to four of the killings, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the other two.
