Mariner grad KeiVarae Russell may be moving positions even before his career at Notre Dame officially begins.
According to the South Bend Tribune, Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly, who was speaking at the Irish Legends Charity Golf, Dinner and Auction Classic at Lost Dunes Golf Club on Monday, said he’s keeping open all options when it comes to Russell and fellow freshman Davonte’ Neal.
Here is what Eric Hansen wrote in the SB Tribune Monday night:
“Speaking of cornerbacks, Kelly said freshmen KeiVarae Russell and Davonte’ Neal could both get a look at that position in August. The 6-0, 177-pound Russell was recruited as a running back, the 5-10, 175-pound Neal as a wide receiver.
” “I think we’ve got to have all of the options open when we go into camp,’ Kelly said. ‘With those two kids in particular we’ve had conversations with them to be flexible.
” ‘We’re going to do what’s best for our team. I think everybody knows where we need to continue to build some depth in certain areas. We’re going to keep open-minded and give them an opportunity to compete.’ “
