Storm waive Dunlap before Tuesday's victory over Washington

The Seattle Storm defeated the Washington Mystics 79-71 on Tuesday in Washington D.C. for the team's fifth straight win. Earlier that day the Storm waived forward Victoria Dunlap, who the Storm acquired in an offseason trade with the Mystics.

Dunlap played in five games this season, averaging 2.6 points per game. She missed the Storm's previous two games prior to being released after suffering her second concussion of the season in practice.

The Storm can only have 10 active players on the roster since Lauren Jackson takes up one of the spots, but won't join the Storm until after the Summer Olympics.

With Dunlap missing games, the Storm were only dressing nine players for games. Her release clears the way for the Storm to sign a healthy player. Storm head coach Brian Agler said it is possible that Dunlap could return to the team after she is over her concussions symptoms.

WNBA player contracts become guaranteed for the season on July 2 and teams can begin signing players to 10-day contracts on July 4.

Seattle Times Storm beat writer Jayda Evans first reported on Tuesday that the Storm have interest in signing one of their former players, Svetlana Abrosimova. Abrosimova was a member of the Storm's 2010 WNBA championship team.

The Storm look to extend their winning streak on Saturday when they face the New York Liberty. A win gets the Storm back to .500 for the season after a 1-7 start.
