Reds promote Cascade grad

The Cincinnati Reds promoted right-handed relief pitcher Brian Pearl to Pensacola of the Class AA Southern League last week.
Pearl, a graduate of Cascade High School, earned the promotion with a strong performance this spring at Class A Bakersfield. In 28 games, he posted a 1-1 record, a 1.31 earned-run average and collected 13 saves. He struck out 41 batters in 341/3 innings.
Fast starts
Former University of Washington teammates Aaron West and Chase Anselment got their pro careers off to solid starts last week.
West, a Snohomish High School grad, threw three shutout innings in his pro debut June 19 for the Tri-City (N.Y.) ValleyCats. He pitched five more scoreless innings Monday to earn his first victory as a pro. West was the Houston Astros' 17th-round pick in this year's draft.
Anselment, picked in the 17th round by Atlanta, made his pro debut June 21 for the Class A Rome (Ga.) Braves. After going 0-for-3 in his first game, Anselment has been on a tear, collecting six hits in his next 12 at-bats, including a home run Saturday in a 9-3 victory over Asheville.
Anselment is a graduate of Meadowdale High School.
