NLL opts out of final two years of CBA

The National Lacrosse League announced on Monday that the League' Board of Governors have unanimously voted to opt out of the final two years of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The league intends to play the 2013 season under the same terms and wages specified in the current agreement.

"Although we have opted out of the current agreement because the economic model does not serve our long term interests, the league remains open for business and committed to play the 2013 season," NLL commissioner George Daniel said. "We remain steady, willing and able to bargain in good faith with the Player's Association on a new CBA."

The league decided to opt out at the NLL Board of Governor's Meetings, which were held in New York city.

The league had just concluded the fifth year of a seven-year deal. That agreement gave either side, the league or the player's association, the right to opt out of the final two years of the agreement.

Of note: Veteran goalkeeper Pat Campbell announced his retirement on Wednesday. Campbell played for several teams in his NLL career and served as the backup goalkeeper in Toronto last season to Matt Roik and Nick Rose after Roik was released midway through the season.
