POULSBO -- Police in Poulsbo say an 80-year-old woman was unhurt after her car rolled about 15 feet down a grassy slope and over a bulkhead, coming to rest with its nose in Liberty Bay.

Although the rear of the car was hung up on the bulkhead, the Bainbridge Island woman managed to climb out by herself Thursday.

Poulsbo Fire Department personnel hoisted her from the beach in a special chair. Fire department spokeswoman Jody Mattson said the driver declined to be taken to a hospital. A Bainbridge Island police officer who had responded took her home.

Police are investigating why she drove her car off Lemolo Shore Drive.
